Eight reasons to NOT buy a filtering water bottle ...and what to use instead.

We have looked high and low for a great water filter bottle. They all miss the mark. Here is why.

Hard to suck.

It is challenging to suck water from any water filter bottle… which discourages drinking lots of water.

The filter sits in the filtered water.

Unlike a water filter that sends filtered water away from the filter, the water bottle filter (including the contaminants it has removed) sits all day in the filtered water that you plan to drink. Few designs avoid this issue.

Plastic in your drinking water.

If you are as conscientious as most of our customers, your preference is to drink out of a glass or stainless steel bottle. By putting a bunch of plastic (the filter apparatus) inside your glass or steel bottle, you end up drinking out of plastic anyway.

The filter does not target the contaminants YOU need removed.

The water filter bottle your kid needs for school is useless for hiking or foreign travel.
Some water filter bottles remove PFOAS and exotic chemicals but don’t filter bacteria and viruses. Others target bacteria and viruses but offer no protection against chemicals and heavy metals.

They leak and drip. Some require extra strength to disassemble or operate.

Water-filtering bottles have more complex parts than a regular water bottle. They are often not leakproof, especially when turned upside down. The filter may drip when removed from the bottle for refilling.

Limited volume

The filter apparatus takes up space inside the bottle reducing the actual volume of filtered water available for you to drink.

Hard to clean

The filter mechanism requires hand cleaning. It cannot be put in a dishwasher. Special parts are easy to lose during cleaning. Special cleaning tools may be recommended.

Expensive to maintain

Bottle filters are small, requiring frequent replacement. Lamps in UV-style water bottles are subject to breaking and require replacement batteries.

YOUR  BEST SOLUTION for portable filtered water

Invest in a good home water filter, appropriate for your local water conditions. Fill your favourite water bottle before you leave home.

For refilling at work, buy a collapsible 1 litre gravity system with a filter appropriate for your local water conditions. Let it filter water while you work. Refill your glass or drinking water bottle as needed.

For a travel filter, use this same portable 1 litre gravity system to fill your favourite water bottle. When collapsed for travel, this system takes up no more space than a 1 litre water bottle yet has impressive filtration/purification capabilities and a service life that will make a water filter bottle seem like an expensive nuisance.
