How Much Time is Needed to Dissipate Chlorine or Chloramine from an Open Container?

September 19, 2019 1 min read

Chlorine may take days to dissipate when left standing in an open container.
Chloramine (chlorine plus ammonia) will dissipate more slowly than chlorine.
Exposure to sunlight will help speed up the dissipation process however, because of the time required, air dissipation is not a practical way to remove chlorine or chloramine from drinking water.
Boiling will speed up the removal of chlorine and chloramine from tsp water but it may result in the concentration of various impurities in the boiled water.
