    Cartridge replacement frequency

Cartridge life will vary in direct proportion to the amount of water used and the type and level of impurities in the water being processed. It is recommended that the cartridge be replaced when the first of the following occurs:
    (a) 750 gallons of use
    (b) 9 – 12 months of use
    (c) the flow rate diminishes (which occurs when the cartridge becomes clogged with particulate matter);
or (d) the cartridge becomes saturated with bad tastes and odours.
DO NOT EXCEED ONE YEAR OF USE.

    * Fluoride cartridge should be changed out after approximately 6 months of use.

  • How do I choose between an under sink or countertop water filter?

Under counter systems are the most popular choice for people who own their own home because the filter housing can be mounted on the cabinet wall below the sink where it is out of sight. The filter draws water from the cold water supply line below the sink. Filtered water is delivered via a dedicated filtered water faucet positioned on the countertop at the side of the sink. The filtered water can also be diverted to a refrigerator or instant hot dispenser.

Countertop filters are great for people who are renting their home and who do not want to drill a hole through the countertop to install a drinking water faucet to connect to a water filter installed under the sink. Countertop systems are portable and easy to move. A faucet diverter valve hooks the filter up to the end of your kitchen tap so that you can get filtered water without interfering with the normal use of your kitchen tap. You must have a standard faucet that is compatible with attaching a faucet diverter valve.

What makes watermatters' Triple Undercounter filter system so effective?

Nationally recognized standards established for the drinking water treatment industry confirm that the most effective systems for the removal of both aesthetic and harmful contaminants are those that utilize solid carbon block filters.

Solid carbon block filters contain millions of microscopic pores which micro-strain every molecule of water passed through the filter. Carbon blocks are dense, compact and stable with millions of enormous interior surfaces which allow water to be in contact with the carbon for a longer period of time, providing greater adsorption of the many different chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and certain heavy metals.

Does the Triple Under Sink Filter remove healthy minerals from my drinking water?

The Triple Under Sink Filter does not remove healthy, naturally occurring minerals from your drinking water.

How are chemicals and lead taken out while healthy minerals remain in the filtered water?

Minerals dissolved in water are in solution and do not have dimension. They pass through the filter unchanged. The materials used in carbon block filters are specifically selected for their ability to react with the chemicals in the water but not with healthy natural minerals.

Specialized carbon block can be activated to target specific dissolved impurities such as lead, VOC’s and chemicals. These contaminants are adsorbed and adhere to the interior surfaces of the carbon block rather than remaining in the water which passes through the filter. This occurs because of a chemical reaction called adsorption.

What is the difference between Adsorption and Absorption?

Adsorption happens when molecules adhere to the surfaces of a substance with which they come in contact. This is how carbon cleans water.

Absorption happens when molecules are taken up by or enter into a substance. This is how a sponge soaks up water.

What is the difference between reducing chlorine and THMs in drinking water?

Chlorine is easily removed from drinking water. However, chlorine is a highly reactive substance which forms hundreds of chlorination by-products when chlorine comes in contact with organic material. Chlorination by-products have a different molecular structure than chlorine. The largest known group of these chlorination by-products are called THMs (Trihalomethanes). Unlike chlorine, THMs are difficult to remove from drinking water. Look for filters that are certified for the reduction of Trihalomethanes and VOCs.

How do I know when to change out my Triple Under Sink drinking water filter cartridge?

Cartridge life will vary in direct proportion to the amount of water used and the type and level of impurities in the water being processed. It is recommended that all three cartridges be replaced simultaneously when the first of the following occurs:
    (a) 750 gallons of use
    (b) 9 months of use
    (c) the flow rate diminishes (which occurs when the cartridge becomes clogged with particulate matter);
or (d) the cartridge becomes saturated with bad tastes and odours.
DO NOT EXCEED ONE YEAR OF USE.

NOTE: Fluoride filters should be changed out after 6 months of use.

Can I backflush my filter cartridges for longer use?

No. The cartridges cannot be back flushed or rinsed and used again. Even if your cartridge is still white and the flow rate is still high, once your cartridge has been wetted it should always be replaced within a year, regardless of remaining capacity.

Why should hot water never be run through a carbon filter?

Running hot water through a carbon block cartridge can cause the carbon to dump adsorbed chemicals and contaminants into the finished water.

What should I do with my triple stage water filter when I go on vacation?

Do not allow water to sit in the drinking water system for extended periods of time (10 or more days) without being used. If the system is to be left unused for more than 10 days, drain all the water from the system and remove the cartridges. Store the cartridges on a clean surface in a well ventilated area until dry. They can be covered loosely with a breathable cotton cloth (cheese cloth). When the cartridge is reinstalled and the system is put back into use, the cartridges will need to be saturated and flushed again by letting water run through the system for approximately 15 – 20 minutes.

The above instructions do not apply to fluoride cartridges. They should be replaced when you return from your vacation.

Do not enclose the wet cartridges or place them in a moist environment (refrigerator) as the moisture could cause bacteria or mold to grow on them.

Never expose your filtration system to freezing temperatures.

TIP:  It is wise to turn off your water supply when you leave your home for extended periods of time.

    What does ‘inline’ mean?

‘Inline’ describes a water filter that is positioned between the source of water to be filtered and the device that will deliver the filtered water.  This device could be a dedicated drinking water faucet, a fridge, an ice maker, an instant hot water dispenser, etc.

How can I connect the filter to a fridge, ice-maker or hot water dispenser?

Under counter water filters can be used as an inline filter to a fridge or instant hot water dispenser. By using a Tee-connector, your drinking water filter can supply filtered water your dedicated filtered water faucet as well as to another water dispensing device.

    Important Note
Drinking water filters are for cold water use only.
Use only on municipally treated water or other supply known to be microbiologically safe.
